Roman was born in 1979 in Slaný. He is the owner of CA Summit Travel, a ski mountaineer, mountain guide, skier in every possible way, climber, adventurer, via ferrata manager in Slaný, construction company owner, and, last but not least, an excavator operator.
As a child, he practiced judo, which gave him a solid physical foundation for all his future sports. At 14, he started playing basketball, a sport he still enjoys today. Since childhood, he has loved heights and all forms of climbing. At 16, he began skydiving and also tried paragliding. He started climbing relatively late, at the age of 20, when he bought his first harness and climbing shoes in Hřensko. His climbing beginnings were on sandstone in Tisá.
Roman enjoys photography and learning about new cultures and local people. He loves the mountains and skiing in all forms—ski touring, freeride, and for the past eight seasons, guiding heliskiing trips in Sweden. No activity is foreign to him, regardless of weather or temperature, ranging from +35°C to -30°C. Another hobby is his adventure touring on enduro bikes.
He graduated from an industrial secondary school with a focus on geology and geodesy. After a year in the military (Dukla Prague), where he played basketball, he returned to his studies. He spent three years in Ústí studying paramedicine and completed another secondary school degree as a general nurse. While working, he pursued a three-year bachelor’s degree in Recreology and Leisure Pedagogy at UPOL Olomouc.
He has completed numerous courses:
• Indoor climbing instructor
• Outdoor climbing instructor
• Mountain guide training
• Courses in avalanche safety, climbing methodology, first aid, psychology, arboriculture, and high-altitude work in 2010 and 2024.
From 2012 to 2017, he organized the Czech Bouldering Cup and was a co-owner of climbing walls and a co-author of the Climbing in Schools project. During the COVID period, he founded a small construction company focusing on tree cutting, pruning, high-altitude, and minor construction work, acquiring a small excavator and becoming an excavator operator.
Roman has two sons, aged 10 and 9, whom he considers his greatest life achievement!
His favorite destinations and activities include ski touring in Georgia, Morocco, Sweden, Norway, the Alps, and even Svalbard.
And what does he say about Direct Alpine: "I have to start by saying that I’m a so-called destroyer 👍😀. I treat gear as consumables and work tools, wearing them in extreme conditions. I only recommend gear that never lets me down in the mountains. If it passes my rigorous testing, it’s built to last. Direct Alpine products fit me well—I wear XXL. I’ve been using their gear for 15 years because it’s technically well-designed, made from durable materials, and has great details like jacket hoods, pant pockets, ventilation, and zippers. They use quick-drying and abrasion-resistant materials. Plus, they look great and are made in the Czech Republic, which I value a lot. Why support overpriced foreign brands when Czech products offer top-notch performance? My favorite item is the Cascade pants (light version), which I’ve been renewing for 15 years. They’re well-made, quick-drying, and perfect for climbing or ski touring. They typically last me two years of continuous use (300–350 days a year). The Guide jacket fits perfectly, is lightweight yet durable, and has excellent features like a high collar, angled zipper, and an adjustable hood that works with or without a helmet. It endured rigorous testing on Denali, Alpine guiding, and the heavy rains of Papua. The Deamon waterproof pants are superbly designed, offering great snow resistance. Tested under extreme conditions on Denali, they proved excellent. I love the higher fit for back coverage and pockets. The full-length zippers make them easy to put on over expedition boots. Finally, the Midi pants are technically well-designed, lightweight, with suspenders to keep them in place during climbing. The unique right pocket was handy for GPS use, making them ideal for winter climbing as lighter overpants.”
