Ambassador Vojtěch Dvořák

"WATT"

Vojta was born in 1974 in Brno and is an enthusiastic climber and skier.

He studied the "school of life," as well as applied graphic design and mechanical engineering. During his studies, he earned money in all sorts of ways, including high-altitude work, working as a sauna attendant, and cleaning at a pool.

He got into climbing by enrolling in the climbing school VHS in Brno. From there, things only went "uphill" for him. His home areas were Kras and Vysočina. Ski touring initially served as a way to get to the wall during winter without exhausting himself, but after moving to the Krkonoše Mountains, it became an obsession.

He left the land of vineyards and apricots and moved closer to his passions (mountains and rocks) in the Krkonoše, where he has quick access to the ridges, his favorite Skalák, Prachov, and Adršpach.

He also dabbles in kayaking and loves the Jizera River, which he calls his "teacher river." He also runs—or at least tries to. He doesn’t give up and keeps making those comical movements over and over. For more than 20 years, he drew comics for the oldest Czech climbing magazine, Montana.

He also publishes instructional articles here and there (e.g., Metodyka – tips that might come in handy). He enjoys thinking about gear and is always looking to improve something.
Vojta is an UIAGM mountain guide, an editor at Svetoutdooru.cz, and a lecturer for the Czech Mountaineering Association (ČHS).

What does he say about Direct Alpine: “Direct works for me, and I rely on it in my work as a mountain guide, as well as a kayaker, climber, and skier. I love the UNIQ insulated jacket, and when the weather turns rough, I throw on the Guide hardshell. What version is it now? Direct has great pant designs. Probably the best I’ve ever worn or seen. Thoughtful details on every piece, all made in Czech workshops or the EU. I also like the increasing use of recycled materials and the repair service that Direct Alpine offers.”

Favorite climbing areas:

  • Prachovské skály and Zbiroh in Český ráj
  • Bišík and Adršpach
  • Vysočina and Moravský kras (his early climbing roots) remain close to his heart.

Among his most valuable climbs, he lists:

  • THE NOSE, Yosemite, USA 2007 (with Jan Říha and Janek Bednařík) – Climbing with a visually impaired climber.
  • High Tatras, Malý Kežmarský štít: winter climbs and first RP repeats of routes on the north face after the Coubal brothers.
  • Prachovská 24 – placed in the top 10 while climbing with a physically disabled climber, Petr Zuch.
  • Hrana na Štěpánskou korunu with variation start via crack (Ádr).
